KABUL, Afghanistan — Explosions and gunfire rocked several parts of the Afghan capital, Kabul, today as around two dozen presumed Taliban militants launched a wave of co-ordinated and sustained attacks against ministries and other targets in the Afghan capital.

More than three hours after the attack began, several militants were believed to be holed up inside a shopping centre in the city centre, which had been set on fire. Amid the chaos, casualty figures were confused, but the Afghan health ministry said at least five people had been killed and 38 injured.

5 people were killed and 38 wounded in the attacks, said Dr. Farid Raaid, a spokesman for the Health Ministry.
