After the controversy over the poster with a pistol, the second look posters of Basavanna with Upendra holding a sword has turned into another controversy. The film's shooting started earlier this week in Mysore. Producer CR Mohanor tried to clear the controversy saying, "The movie is based on rowdyism. It is like the film Om, which Upendra directed. Let it not become controversial just because of the title. Basavanna is just the name of the character in the film. I do not want to get publicity out of controversies. If the film is good, the audience will watch it otherwise the film will not run and the audience will reject it."
Basavanna, according to Mohanar is just the name of a character in the movie and nothing to do with the 12th century social reformer. In 1996, the then chief minister JH Patel inaugurated the statue of Basavanna in the Chalukya Circle in Bangalore. Basavanna is depicted as a warrior wearing a sword on his waist. As a minister under the Kalachuri king, Basavanna has been depicted wearing a sword. But however, controversy is being created for a film character with the same name using a sword.
The shooting for the film has commenced and is underway in Mysore. We had planned to shoot the movie in Sweden and other European locations. But after checking out the locations, we felt that it would not suit shooting fight sequences there. The fight sequences will be shot in Thailand.
