Urumi is an eight feet long flexible sword which is used in Kalari martial art. For the film lovers Urumi is also the name of upcoming Santosh Sivan film starring hot and happening Prithviraj and bewitching Genelia D'Souza.

The film Urumi is about a group of men who plan to murder the Portuguese adventurer, Vasco De Gama, who set foot in Kappad in Calicut in 1498. Genelia will play a Portuguese princess and Prithviraj will be the leader of the mob that desires to murder Vasco Da Gama.

The film was first said to be a bilingual in Malayalam and Tamil. But now it is heard that the movie is made for international audiences and to be released in Hindi, English and Malayalam.

Urumi is produced by Prithviraj himself in association with Santhosh Sivan, under the banner 'August Cinema'.

This will be Santhosh's third film with Prithviraj after Ananthabhadram in 2005 and Raavanan recently. The director who also has photographed all his films had lately directed Beyond the Rains and Tahaan: The Boy with a Grenade, featuring Rahul Khanna and Rahul Bose in 2008.

Sankar Ramakrishnan, who directed Island Express in the film Kerala Cafe, is writing the script. The other casts are to be finalized and the filming will commence in August in Kerala
